Summary: Our heroine is a girl who lives as a geisha in Japan. She has a male childhood friend who’s always been kind to her and is her favorite. He’s a painter, only he paints on human body parts, and she loves it when he paints beautiful butterflies on her arms. She goes to visit him one day and finds a naked woman lying in his room. Immediately after, she gets a customer who’s rich and very interested in her. The thought of being away from her friend pains her, but is everything really too late?

Opinion: Graphics are nice. Very pretty. Almost like a painting on each page.

So this is basically the sweetest most beautiful story I have ever read. Seriously. It goes from the beginning to end, which is a nice change. It ends and there are no questions about the future. The characters are sweet. The main girl is a clutz but she tries really hard to be with the one she loves. The guy is SO CUTE. Oh my, he is so rough in the beginning but turns into total mush later on. It’s cute.

Historically, I enjoyed this so much. I think I really understood it a lot better since I’ve seen Memoirs of a Geisha. Definitely go out and watch that movie before reading this if you can. If you don’t, no biggie, it will just be a little harder to understand some of the circumstances especially surrounding Japan and WW2.

Memoirs of a Geisha was better as the movie then the book. All I’m gonna say is that the movie ending is like “Aw!” and the book ending is all like “Are you kidding me?”.
