Opinion: I’m glad I’m reviewing this series right after “Somethings Wrong with Us” because I feel like Seirou Opera does a way better job. You’ve got a murder mystery but at the same time you feel really connected to all the characters.
To start the art is fantastic. Right away I recognized the art from Black Bird and I love it. Her art style always looks so fantastic with a historical backdrop. Very detailed but not sparkly. She definitely has her own specific style and it consistently delivers.
For the Heroine I would love to say she is strong and I think she is, but she is quite emotional. Overall I quite like her regardless.
The pacing of the series is slow but fast all at the same time. There is a lot of historical jargon that can make it confusing. I would recommend reading Sakuran which is pretty short and sweet but does a great job explaining the ins and outs of the pleasure district.
I’m absolutely hooked on this series. When it’s not the pining of a forbidden relationship, the murder mystery will keep you hooked! A must read.
