Opinion: I LOVE the graphics. Not consistent the whole way through, but not to say any of it looks bad. The style just changes a little from beginning to end. In LOVE with the eyes and the way the mangaka drew the assisstant… It reminds me of Kayono! I know there is a ton of controversy around Kayono but she is one of the few artists I have read religiously: AKA everything that she has ever done that is translated… I have read. I may not have reviewed them since I’ve been reading them since the beginning, but I love it. And this mangaka is new so it’s just going to get better from here! I’m so excited for their future projects!

As for the story, I haven’t read something so adorable and comedic since Oresama Teacher. Unlike Oresama Teacher there is WAY more romance and it’s just to adorable to bear. I’m not a Japanese slinging otaku, but holy mother of moe, doki doki. Doki doki describes this series in more ways then I ever could.

It’s hilarious as well, can totally relate to the herione. Pursuit of happiness? More like pursuit of manga. She’s strong in many ways but weak in so many ways that you can relate to as well. Also it’s kinda cute to see the awkward, socially weird guy win one for once. Also can we give this manga an award for breaking away from “Same Hair Syndrome*”?

One thing I do not like is how lightly her abuse of the main guy is taken. She beats the crap out of him and it’s always comedic relief, domestic abuse isn’t funny.

In the end though it was perfect as a 1 shot. Any longer may have been just too much. It ends in such a sweet spot and I have nothing but mad love for the series!

***Same Hair syndrome is the fact that in 90% of manga (Uncited source) the girl will always end up with a guy with the opposite hair colour. AKA: Girl with light hair will end up with guy with dark hair/Girl with dark hair will end up with guy with light hair.

I’m not making this up, I don’t enforce the rules, but it’s a disturbing trend that can help you predict the ending of many a romance manga.

Opinion: Love the graphics. Cute and modern. Very down to earth with not a TON of glitter… but it’s there.

Okay so with the plot. GUYS, I have a LOT of feelings about this series. All the feelings. It’s so sweet (in the perfect way) and refreshing. I just cannot get over how amazing the heroine is. She isn’t vain or obsessive or overtly insecure. There isn’t this constant melodramatic undertone. The heroine is just continually genuine and honest. You can’t help but love her. It isn’t even like she is some wonder woman either, she isn’t unrealistically perfect and gracious.

And you know what? The heroine has this great relationship with her friends which is always a plus for me.

The guy is interesting and unique. The romance is slow and realistic. Nothing in the series seems super forced except this strange arc you get into around Ch.27. (When you catch up can we all agree wtf?)

I really really really enjoyed this series. It’s an awesome high school/first love romantic novel done perfectly.

Opinion: I quite enjoy the graphics. I love how the guy is drawn darker and you can kinda get a sense of his personality through shading. Love the style, pretty up to date, very shoujo with minimal sparkle. (But loads of blush)

This is just a sugary sweet piece of pie. These cute, wholesome bff’s attempt to date. At first it was cute. Would have been awesome as one volume, but at this point the girl is way too paranoid. I get being concerned but it’s so melodramatic. I dunno what’s going to happen now that the contract has been extended.

Otherwise very vanilla.

Opinion: Love the graphics sooo much. I mean, I don’t think they are ridiculously original but it’s a style so seldom used in shoujo and I’m just really impressed. Very straight forward, slim, streamlined. It seems a strange way to describe art but I’m serious. It also matches the characters very well. A+

The story is so cliche. Been there done that. Still a guilty and luscious pleasure though. I mean how many completely original romance novels can there be? The characters are so fun and I found myself laughing quite literally out loud. I totally understand the heroines struggle to be feminine. It’s sweet.

There was a lot of potential there though that was untapped. I feel like the author has a better grasp on the idea of the age gap forced marriage then any predecessors… but keeps the story and the characters relationship very shallow. More emotion! Maybe if it was longer then 1 volume?

Opinion: Loved the graphics. They seem really modern and clean, not fluffy, but still pretty shoujo.

As for the plot get ready for a serious case of “Wow that escalated quickly.”. It’s listed as horror and I stopped periodically thinking where the horror came in. What is horror? Horror compared to suspense or a thriller. Then it hits like “Welp, that’s definitely horror.”

Not very original at all. Fairly predictable and lot of build up for a very quick climax and diminuendo. But I do have to say it’s very refreshing to see stereotypical “love” smeared in almost satire.

Opinion: I could like the graphics more. They’re kinda long and pointy. Bishounen are pretty great looking.

The series is interesting. I feel like it’s a really weird watered down version of Trinity Blood. Or maybe Dazzle? It just feels like the set up is great but there isn’t a ton of depth to the story.

BUT, great huge but, I still love it. It’s like an addictive harlequin romance (which lets admit, isn’t as awful as people assume). It’s got an interesting back drop but is very much a typical shoujo. As long as you don’t have any huge expectations I’m sure you will love this supernatural story.

Plot Rating: 3/5

Opinion: Love the graphics. I find the girls are drawn quite plain but jeezus the males are nice looking. Which is great since you spend the series staring at the hapless and good looking hero.

The plot is a little interesting but there isn’t a ton of depth to it. Despite that there is something about this series. I think the series can catch you off guard from art. The art and the scenes the artist has decided to show are very important, even more important then any of the words. You really feel the emotion and I could feel my heart squeezing more then a few times.

Although not an award winner I really really enjoyed reading this series.

This review sucks a lot but it’s hard to describe this series for some reason… maybe I’m just rusty.

{Personal Life Update: Jan 2014}

January 26th, 2014

January2014
*Mademoiselle Butterfly

Hey guys, I realize that once more I’ve ghosted, and I apologize.

This post may come off as maybe too personal for some but I’ve always seen this site as a great way to communicate with some friends I don’t see often. I also often have had little journal entries like this and they are interesting to look back on.

I’ve been gone since September but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been reading manga. Manga is still such an important part of my life. I’m almost up to 1000 books and I’m totally running out of space in my room!

One of the reasons I haven’t updated with new series is that I found a lot of the new series coming out were all yaoi. Yaoi is the opposite of my “thing” and it is extremely important to me to have a website dedicated to just shoujo and josei since it’s something that I always wanted. Trying to look for josei or shoujo I would always find yaoi and I just… don’t like it? So I’ve spent a lot of time re reading what I have and catching up on those on going series I reviewed three years ago. (It’s so much!)

Secondly my personal life has kinda of been from one extreme to the next since September. September 19th while I was at work my father passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from a heart attack. All year he had been in and out of the hospital due to arthritis but never anything life threatening. He had just been to the hospital in the morning for some tests and passed away when he got home.

I’ve found it incredibly difficult to deal with since it was so sudden. It’s crazy to go from seeing someone every day and sharing your life with someone and just suddenly without warning they aren’t there anymore. It’s been four months but it’s crazy how there are still days I just want to stay home cry and sleep.

Once my dad passed away my life has been up and down with dealing with everything that comes after. Dealing with our house and family drama it’s crazy. The structure of my own life was shaken.

It’s difficult but I feel like I’m finally getting back to my “routine”.

I hope you all have had a better time since September! I’m hoping you enjoyed your holidays and I hope your New Years was amazing!
I want this year to be the best, I want to be more structured and organized.

I’m looking forward to a new year with you guys!

xoxo Kitteh

Opinion: Love the graphics, not as much as her other oneshot I reviewed but still interesting.

I really like this oneshot. The heroine is a little over the top but still relatable on a certain level. Her character structure is usually found in the male counters in most shoujo so it was interesting to see the reverse. And as strange as the male counter in this series is, I really loved him.

For a oneshot this is worth 15 minutes of your time.

Opinion: So madly in love with the graphics. I love the art so much. Need to read a series with this art that goes for 6 volumes minimum.

The plot is so adorable. SO CUTE. The plot fits perfectly for a oneshot, which is kinda rare. A calm cool and mature female lead and a stuttering lead isn’t new, but the female not having to be a flat out dominatrix is. It’s a relationship dynamic that feels realistic rather then over the top and it makes the story fun.

Great one shot.
